The Sports Awards Dinner sees each of the eight Academy Squads present their programs Coaches Award - an award decided on by each program head coach. Award Criteria can be based on anything from Commitment and Achievement, to Leadership and Most Improved.
The 2006 Sports Awards Dinner, held at Wests Leagues Club Campbelltown, saw the Coach Recognition Awards launched, with thirteen coaching staff presented with Bronze, Silver or Gold awards presented. These awards are awarded in recognition of years of continuous service within the SWSAS Sporting programs.
The most prestigious Academy Award is the Chairpersons Award, which was Inaugurated in 1999 by Former Chairperson, Mr Kevin Flack. The winner of this award is the person determined as the most outstanding athlete in terms of displaying the traits of what the Academy is all about. The athlete who has embraced the Academy philosophy, has well developed social skills, leadership abilities and has a well developed sense of their responsibilities in a sporting sense.
Each squad nominates one athlete from their program, with the final winner selected by current Chairman Dr Barry Ridge.
The night also features a keynote speech from a leading Australian sportsperson. In the past the Academy has been fortunate enough to hear from Brennon Dowrick (Gymnast), Stephen Bradbury (Ice Skating), Damian Brown (Weightlifting), Fiona Crawford (Softball), James Darby (Baseball and Inaugural Chairpersons Award Winner) and Bronwyn Eagles (Athletics).
