Academy Golf Day fast approaching

The South West Sydney Academy of Sport will have the opportunity to recognise the outstanding achievements of its Golf squad athletes as part of its upcoming Golf Day to be held on the 15 May at Antill Park Country Golf Club.

The Golf Day is open to all local business teams and individuals from novice to elite.

The aim of the Golf Day is to raise funds to support the Academy's Golf program.

The program provides young golfers the opportunity to further develop their skills, provide high quality sports education, and the opportunity to develop match day skills whilst competing in a range of quality tournaments throughout the year.

One such tournament was last weekend's ClubsNSW Academy Games, where athletes competed on three difficult courses across the Central Coast over a three day period. Courses included Shelly Beach, Kooindah Waters and Magenta Shores Golf Course, all of which proved a challenge for Academy golfers.

This sought after event attracts a large number of highly talent junior golfers each year, and this year was no different with 63 players registered to play.

The Academy entered a squad of 9 athletes with a focus on playing smart and playing to their individual handicap potential. Academy squad coach Steve Borton was very proud of the effort of each athlete considering the difficult conditions. Majority of the athletes had never played on the featured courses previously, which meant each athlete had to lift their game and adapt to the conditions.

The Academy Golf program operates with the support of the Antill Park Country Golf Club and the Jack Newton Junior Golf Foundation, to develop our best local junior golfers.

Golf Day team nominations are available now, and Academy athletes are available to participate as part of a team, or assist novice players to improve their golf and have as much fun as possible. Ladies teams and individuals are most welcome.
