Tennis is one of two new sports that the Academy introduced in 2006. The Inaugural Tennis program is run in conjunction with Tennis NSW and NSWIS.
The program is run in conjunction with the Regional TDC program, and underpins the Tennis NSW State program. Athletes aged 11-16 are invited to nominate for selection in the squad, which operates from March until October.
Athletes will undertake several education and sports psychology sessions to value-add to their on-court training. Such Education components include:
The 2008 SWSAS program has taken a new approach with the inclusion of a Junior and a Senior Squad - placing athletes into their respective age divisions (11-13 and 14-16) for the duration of the Academy program.
Athletes then compete in their respective age group at an Intra-Academy Challenge Event in September, where the program will conclude for the majority of the athletes. Finalists (Top 2) in each division however will have the opportunity to represent the South West Sydney Academy of Sport at the Fourth Annual ASi Academy Games in Armidale during October 9-11, 2008.
The South West Sydney Academy of Sport were runners up at the Academy Games in 2006 and Won the tournament in 2007.
