Campbelltown Catholic Club celebrates 50th anniversary

CAMPBELLTOWN Catholic Club celebrated its 50th anniversary almost to the day in November but also used the occasion to renew its commitment to the Macarthur region community.

"Because when you're ingrained in a community, you develop a sense of responsibility. A responsibility to care for the people that visit your home. To make their lives better by creating a place where they can enjoy shared experiences. Somewhere for them to create memories. Memories that they will keep forever," club CEO Michael Lavorato said in a speech.

Mr Lavorato recounted the club's humble beginnings as a fundraising venture by a group of St John's parents hoping to assist their children's schooling to an employer of 420 and a keen eye to the future.

"The club has recently acquired the Fishers Ghost Property as well as the beautifully historic Emily Cottage. We will work strategically and in the best interests of the community to fully realise the tremendous opportunities these investments provide. We will also work closely with Campbelltown Council and other stakeholders with whom we share the same excitement around the Reimagined Campbelltown CBD."

Mr Lavorato highlighted an exciting 2019, which included the refurbishment of the gaming lounge and Café Samba.

COMMENDATION IN PARLIAMENT

Campbelltown state Labor MP Greg Warren highlighted Campbelltown Catholic Club's anniversary in Parliament on August 14. This is part of what he said:

"Today's Campbelltown Catholic Club is a far cry from the original building in 1968. Dining has become a major focus with the Kyubi Modern Asian Dining on par with some of Sydney's best restaurants. Rydges is also in the midst of a 154-room expansion. I doubt the founding board members would have envisaged such a transformation at their 1964 working bee. One can only imagine what the club will look like in another 50 years but one thing is for sure: Campbelltown Catholic Club will always remain the King of Clubs and it will always remain dear to everyone in our great city as a beacon of community and a flagship of entertainment in the region. I congratulate everyone involved over the past 50 fantastic years and I wish the club the very best for the next 50 years to come and another 50 after that."

Minister for Western Sydney Start Ayres responded:

"I echo the positive words of the member for Campbelltown about the contribution of the Campbelltown Catholic Club over the past 50 years. Any organisation that operates for 50 years with a strong focus on giving back to its community should be commended in this place."
