2018/2019 DAP Basketball Program - Scholarship Nomination

The South West Sydney Academy of Sport (SWSAS) implements high quality development programs across a number of sports, for talented young athletes from across South West Sydney.

The Academy is implementing Basketball NSW's Developing Athlete Program (DAP). The focus of the program is to assist talent identified athletes to improve their individual performance based on a solid platform of skill development and sports education. The program will provide an opportunity for local Basketballers looking to enter Basketball NSW's streamlined development pathway.

The program will operate from October to April (term 4 & term 1) offering weekly squad   training sessions. The program implements the curriculum provided by BNSW.

In addition to on-court training sessions and competition opportunities, athletes will receive access to sport science, education seminars and community engagement opportunities.


  • Open to male and female Basketballers aged 13-16yrs in 2019 (Born 2006 - 2003)
  • Registered with a Basketball NSW affiliated association.
  • Reside, or attend school, or play in the Campbelltown, Camden, Liverpool or Wollondilly LGA.
  • Be committed to progressing to higher representation within the sport of Basketball.

Scholarships are not in the form of a monetary sum, but rather enable athletes to participate in the Academy program which includes sports specific weekly training, camps and inter-academy opportunities. These opportunities include access to high level coaches, analysis of technique, sports science, sport psychology, nutrition, media training and drugs in sport awareness. 



  • An affiliation levy of $250.00 GST inclusive, applies to all successful athletes.
  • The levy covers the cost of participation in the program.
  • All athletes will be provided with a program uniform.
  • The affiliation levy must be paid in full within 21 days of selection, or the scholarship offer will be automatically withdrawn, (unless agreed Board of Management arrangements have been confirmed).

Note: The Basketball Program may include activities at an additional cost to athletes. Eg. Inter-Academy match play opportunities


  • Must be submitted on the official Nomination Form which is available HERE
  • Must be received in the Academy's office by no later than the advertised closing date for nominations. Nominations received after the date of closing may be ruled invalid and not considered by the Academy.
  • Must provide all relevant information requested. Any incomplete nominations or failure to provide requested information may result in the nomination not being considered.


  • Once final nominations have been received all nominees will be required to attend the trial date.
  • Following the trial session, and after consideration of all information provided by applicants, the selection panel will make recommendations to the Academy. A decision will be made and the squad will be announced on the SWSAS website.
  • Successful athletes (parents/guardians) will be provided with full scholarship agreement documents.
  • Selection will be confirmed upon receipt of Athlete Levy and signing of the scholarship agreement documentation by the athlete and the athlete's parents/guardians.

The 2018-2019 Basketball Squad Trials

Nominations close Friday 19th October 2018

9.00am 10:30am at Minto Indoor Sports on Sunday 21st October 2018
Athletes are NOT permitted to wear their association/club/school uniform at any Academy trial.
Athletes MUST wear sleeveless top and shorts no longer than knee length.
SWSAS athletes from previous seasons are not permitted to wear any Academy gear including tracksuits at the trial)
