Academy Sport Again On The Rise
Sport is once again on the rise, but as in many areas of life it will never be the same again.
We are now all abundantly clear, that there will be a myriad of various challenges facing all involved
with running sport. And I am sure they will be overcome with patience, greater internal sport connectivity,
an understanding of required changes, and the opportunity to change - most often for the better.
The next 12-months will see the Academy go through its greatest ever transition. As it along with its
Regional Academy colleagues, will better position itself in Australia's sports development pathway.
The first step has been taken, with the relocation of the Academy's administration centre (see article
below). And recently signed, an enhanced partnership, with the NSW Institute of Sport, has been another
highly positive and supportive step.
And a greater integration with Office of Sport outcomes,
has also placed the Academy in a much stronger pathway position.
The next 12-months will see a heightened engagement in athlete screening in training and competition
with an increased individual athlete strength and conditioning program, which will incorporate an athlete
monitoring system.
Along with a greater
contribution to regional sport and active recreational plans; SWSAS will also take a lead role in the
systematic adoption of the Australian Institute of Sport FTEM athlete development model across the region.
As you can see there is much to do, and you have a highly committed team at SWSAS, that will transform
these amazing, identified changes into actions, for the betterment of our current and future local athletes.
Enjoy your athlete journey.

BMX Test Rides Macarthur's New World Class Track
SWSAS
BMX Manager Anne-Marie Moubarak shows athletes video feedback of their gate starts during the recent BMX
squad session at the new Macarthur Track.
After what seemed
like an eternity away from the dirt tracks of the BMX world, the South West Sydney Academy of Sport (SWSAS)
BMX squad athletes recently returned, to test ride Macarthur's new World Class track in Elderslie.
The SWSAS BMX squad, like the majority of our regions sporting community, was forced into a two-month
break from the track due to COVID-19 restrictions. However unlike other sporting organisation's, the Academy
was able to continue to develop athletes knowledge and understanding of their sport across a number of
online training opportunities.
Under strict "Return
to Ride" guidelines, the Academy athletes were excited to be one of the first organisation's to experience
the new BMX facilities provided by Camden Council.
"After the short
break, it was amazing to see the riders still sharing that squad-like mentality with each other", said
Academy Acting Sports Programs Manager Daniel Currinckx, who added, "Covid-19 has affected community sport
within our region in many different ways, we are thankful that we have a gradual return to normality within
our Academy squads."

Academy's Historic Step in Time
The South West Sydney
Academy of Sport has firmly entrenched its spot into Campbelltown history, after recently making the move
to the historic 'Coach House', in the heart of the city's Heritage Precinct, at the southern end of Queen
Street.
After being located at the opposite end of town for sixteen years, in its affectionately known 'little
fibro cottage of champions', the Academy had well and truly out-grown its humble premises.
The move to the significantly larger premise allows the Academy to enjoy the space it needs to successfully
provide high-quality administrative support to its current crop of sports programs. As well as allowing
the Academy to provide much needed additional programs, including a targeted community coach education
program, it plans to launch in the coming months.
