Individual Skill Development

A large component of the Academy sports programs is a focus on the individual skill development of the athlete. These are sports-specific fundamental skills that are relevant to the athlete's ability to progress through the development pathway in their sport.

These skills can include:

  • Passing
  • Catching
  • Dribbling
  • Hitting
  • Fielding
  • Running
  • Jumping
  • Shooting/Scoring
  • Defending

The individual skill development criteria will be developed by the state development pathway and provided to the Academy through an MoU or additional program material.

Athletes are given the opportunity to develop their fundamental skills throughout varied playing positions and environments, along with individual and team skills in training and competition environments.

Team structures and set plays focus on team concepts and those structures and set plays used at state trials or state squad level to allow the athletes to develop and practice the skills required to be successful in moving on the athlete development pathway.
