2018/2019 Hockey Program - Update

Unfortunately, there is an insufficient pool of male and female players in the 16 to 18-year age group in the Metropolitan South West Hockey Association, to provide a full 2018/2019 program.

Interested players have been provided the opportunity and have joined the Academy's Future Stars athlete program.

These players are being provided the opportunity to undertake all aspects of the Future Stars athlete program, including an individual ongoing personal strength and conditioning gym program.

Players also have the opportunity, to train with the NSW Hockey AAP program.

And, also receive additional individual coaching sessions from Hockey NSW selected coaches.

Players will also have the opportunity to participate in the ClubsNSW, 'Your Local Club' Academy Games, at Newcastle from the 12th to 14th April 2019.

Hockey NSW is working in partnership with the Academy to support an Academy hockey program, in 2019 2020.

The opportunity to join these players will remain open, until the 1st April 2019.

The Program

The South West Sydney Academy of Sport (SWSAS) implements high performance programs for talent identified athletes from South Western Sydney across a number of sports. The academy implements a hockey program in association with Hockey NSW. The focus of the program is on high standards of individual performance and excellence based on a solid platform of skill development. The program is a link in the Hockey NSW development pathway, linking club athletes to state and national programs.

The SWSAS program is very aware of the attributes required for hockey athletes to progress on this pathway. We are very proud of the fact that every year; Academy athletes gain selection into the Hockey NSW AAP program. Six players have successfully made this transition from our program in the last 2 years alone.

SWSAS is now accepting nominations from male and female athletes for the 2018/2019 hockey program.
