Everyone's a winner at academy of sport golf day

The picturesque Campbelltown Golf Club was recently subjected to the needs of golfers representing a myriad of various sports, sporting greats and not so greats seeking "one-day'' honours at the South West Sydney Academy of Sport annual golf day.
 

Metal4U under the stewardship of past Academy golf program manager Jamie Clapham and Academy 2014 athlete of the year son Ben Clapham took home the trophy after being declared Scratch winners.

Eighteen teams competed in the 2018 Ambrose event.

The Academy's naming rights sponsor, the Campbelltown Catholic Club, boasted an array of top local talent in its team, including the likes of Graeme Derrig, David Turner, Roger Cubit and Matt Koura were Nett winners.

The academy's golf program sponsor, Campbelltown Golf Club, again demonstrated its continued promotion of the development of junior golf locally, through its support of the academy on the day.

And, thanks to the generosity of many, the golf day raised over $7,500 for the SWSAS junior golf program.

The money raised will go towards providing sports skill, education and further tournament opportunities for its golf athletes.

Camden's seven year old golf prodigy Jesse Linden was the day's special guest and astounded all present with his amazing international golfing achievements.

Up and coming academy golfing star Robbie Minns provided an exceptional lunchtime address.

Minns spoke passionately about the benefits of the academy program, along with its recent achievements.

The day also provided academy athletes the opportunity of playing alongside many of the day's key supporters, including sporting teams and individuals representing the NRL, Jack Newton Junior Golf Foundation, Club Menangle, NSW Office of Sport and the School Sports Unit.

"Having corporate partners like the Campbelltown Catholic Club, Club Menangle, Wests League Club Campbelltown, Jack Newton Junior Golf Foundation, Kelly + Partners and the Campbelltown Golf Club participate in the event demonstrates their joint and individual support of the academy and what it continues to achieve locally,'' says academy executive director Gerry Knights.

The golf day event sponsor Shorrocks Human Movement and Rehabilitation Services team was joined by teams representing Event Cinemas Campbelltown and Liverpool, Makibe Australia, The Mac, Jones Partners, AEI Group and Marsden Law Group, in what was a fantastic day of golf, fun and friendship.
