The South West Sydney Academy of Sport's Softball Program provides high performance training opportunities for talented young athletes in the South West Sydney region. In partnership with Softball NSW, the program provides opportunities for athletes in the areas of technical skill, education and personal development, preparing athletes for the next level of elite sport representation.
A GST inclusive levy of $400-00 will be applicable to successful athletes and covers the cost of uniform including polo and competition shirts, training shorts, tracksuit and cap, and full participation in the program, with the exception of additional items identified below.
Returning athletes pay a GST inclusive levy of $300-00 and will not receive any new uniform. Note: The opportunity to purchase individual items will be available once all Academy squads have been outfitted.
All athlete levies must be paid in full within 21 days of selection, or the scholarship offer will be automatically withdrawn; unless agreed Board of Management arrangements have been confirmed.
The Academy squad will compete in additional competitions throughout the program where an additional cost will be incurred. All tournaments have a cost which must be met by entering teams.
Athletes will be responsible for the purchase of a personal set of Grey 'Sliders'.
Any agreed additional tour opportunities.
Optional Uniform may also be purchased from SWSAS, for example Hoodies.
The Academy reserves the right to accept, or reject any athlete nomination based on its selection criteria. All athletes submitting an expression of interest in an Academy program are required to acknowledge that the acceptance of their nomination will be at the sole discretion of the Academy.
The Academy's general selection criterion is as follows:
Born in 2004, 2003 and 2002 Athletes turning age 15, 16 and 17 in 2019.
All athletes nominating for an Academy scholarship must reside within the defined Council Local Government boundaries of Campbelltown, Camden, Liverpool, and Wollondilly.
Note: Athletes that do not reside within these Local Government boundaries but attend school or compete for an affiliate sporting club within these boundaries and do not have access to a comparable Academy program within their local goverment area may be considered for selection subject to special consideration by the Academy.
Athlete nominations must be submitted on the online form prior to the listed closing date.
Scholarships are not in the form of a monetary sum, but rather enable athletes to participate in the Academy program which includes sports specific training workshops, camps and competition opportunities. These workshops include access to elite level coaches, analysis of technique, sports science, sport psychology, nutrition, and drugs in sport awareness.
The program will have a heavy off-season focus. Training sessions will be held within the Academy region, with the possibility of games scheduled against squads representing other NSW Regional Academies, selected major events such as ClubsNSW Academy Games and participation in the Hunter Region Australian Invitational Youth Games.
