Rock Flip Your Way To Success

The South West Sydney Academy of Sport is excited to announce its hosting the first Coach Connect Conference.

Scheduled to be held at Wests League Club, Campbelltown, on Sunday 12 October 2025, join with us and special guest presenters, Head Coach of the Tongan Tala Netball, Jaqua Pori Makea Simpson, and Ultra Sports Management Talent Scout and Athlete Manager, Nal Wijesekera as we unpack the phrase to Rock Flip Your Way To Success.

Asked how to identify talent and develop athletes ahead of her first World Cup campaign as head coach of a Pacific Nation who had not only never been there before, but didn't have the resources or even facilities for the sport available to them to start with!, Jaqua Pori Makea Simpson responded in the perfect fashion. "It's like going to the beach and flipping over the rocks, you don't know what your going to get, but you look anyway".

And its with that fresh and open mind that coaches, especially in multicultural and diverse roles, and regions are encouraged to take.

Add in a then fresh-faced Sri Lankan who fell in love with Rugby League when arriving in Australia all those years ago, we will share in the journey of a man who is now recognised as one of the region's, if not Nation's most respected talent identification scouts, managing a number of incredible NRL athletes.

Join us as we take an immersive dive into coaching across multiple cultural dimensions within the high performance sport pathway, not just how to identify talent within your own athletes and community, but how to inspire and influence them to make their mark on their own sporting journey.

This conference will include presentations and open discussions on coaching athletes both in and outside of the training arena, dealing with issues surrounding motivation, self-awareness, value and purpose, along with coach development and education in growing in your purpose for coaching, strategies for building strong united teams, and more.

All Coach and Support Staff across the community sporting clubs of South West Sydney, along with all coaches within the Regional Academies Network are invited to attend.

  • Full Lunch
