Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

As the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to develop, the South West Sydney Academy of Sport is closely monitoring information and advice being provided by the relevant Government authorities, including NSW Health and the NSW Office of Sport.

With the purpose of ensuring all activities and practices of Academy athletes and staff members meet the best standards of health and safety.

A State-wide teleconference of the nine independent NSW Regional Academies of Sport was conducted on 16 March 2020, and a decision has been made by all Academies to implement specific precautionary restrictions on our athlete development program activities.

A document outlining the Regional Academies decisions in respect of the cancellation of the 2020 'Your Local Club' Academy Games and the suspension of all program activity involving attendance at training sessions and education seminars can be accessed using the following link.

The Regional Academies' decision to suspend program activity has been taken with a clear focus on ensuring the health and safety of our athletes and staff members and will be reviewed at the end of the Easter school holiday period. Any opportunity to extend program activity or provide additional content will be considered at that time.

The Academy already has its plans in place, to continue to support the development of its talent identified junior athletes remotely.

An online service will provide athletes appropriate 'body weight' and 'band resistance' training programs, which will incorporate athlete education on correct posture and technique.
And specific programs will be developed for athletes requiring strength, or power in their individual sport.

The Academy will also provide a sports education syllabus, from within its 'ClubsNSW Education Program' suite, of sports education subjects.

Topics will include nutrition, sports psychology, sports medicine and injury prevention, integrity in sport and financial fitness, to name but a few.

The Academy will also engage its coaching staff in the development of sports skill components, that can be provided remotely.

Should you have any inquiries regarding the position of the South West Sydney Academy in respect of the COVID-19 pandemic please contact our office during business hours, on (02) 4627 7622.
